‘Labyrinth’ is classic Terry Lee Brown Jnr – that is, it’s an album made up of wonderfully deep, nocturnal house music that manages to be both relaxing and stimulating at the same time. The principal strength of this record is in its perspective, which works a treat on a track like ‘Stereopsis’, which balances lovely washes of sound with the idea of a far-off carnival, adding a bit of extra percussion to the music. The same spacey touches bring life to ‘It Started Right Here’, a collaboration with The Timewriter, while three short musical interludes balance up the longer structures with precision. An album that comes into its own late at night, it confirms Brown as a producer still to be reckoned with, tapping into the dark confines of the underground with consummate ease.
