Universal are certainly putting their financial clout behind MTV docu-pop newcomers Portobella, with yet another mix joining the previously promoted club workouts from Martin Knight & Martijn Ten Velden, the electronica of Playgroup and grunginess of Magic Harley that were first circulated in October. Pete Lorimer is the latest to tackle Michael Gray’s production by adding vintage Italo-style piano riffs and crisp beats beneath the sing-a-long vocal. Some way removed from their angst ‘Covered In Punk’ debut, this more polished sound should find favour with radio programmers keen to find the next Stonebridge.
