Paolo Rocco – ‘That I Am’ – (Real Tone Records)

Paolo RoccoThis must be one of Real Tone’s most distinctive releases to date – albeit a somewhat unhinged one. And that’s down to Paolo’s detuned and rather sinister sounding vocal, which delivers its provocative message alongside a series of insistent electronic beats and equally punchy snares. Or to put it this way, this is a seriously excellent record that clearly needs your attention. POINT G provides the remix and dub with a killer House bassline that wouldn’t feel out of place any time in the early nineties, plus a quick succession of sure-fire drums paying perfect complement to the original. ‘I Fly High’ then finishes with more reassuringly deep chords and soulful vibes.
