The Zzub Chart

Mark Stewart: More than a Stereotype.

1 (8) MARK STEWART FT. FACTORY FLOOR – STEREOTYPE – FUTURE NOISE MUSIC

A building throbbing mish mash of understated subtle melancholy with jangly guitar from PiL’s Keith Levine, alongside Nik Void’s can’t be arsed art house duet vocals. Comes with an interesting set of remixes. http://youtu.be/6_Rc8e1vXB8

2 (9) LINDSTROM – EG-GED-OSIS / RA-AKO-ST (TODD TERJE EDITS) –

SMALLTOWN SUPERSOUND

The Norwegian music maestro is set to release his fourth solo LP in November, and from it comes two tracks that have been given that special edit treatment from fellow countryman Todd Terje. 21st Century disco at its best with lush synths and intoxicating rhythms to lose yourself in. http://youtu.be/gN-JYkTxj5U

3 (7) SASSE – TOOK MY LOVE Ft. BIG BULLY – MY FAVORITE ROBOT

Old school house that has got a classic D.J. International / Chicago Trax feel, especially Sasse’s Detroit Mix which features those back in the day cow bells alongside Big Bully’s vocals, transporting you back to ecstatic times in a sweaty strobe lit and smoke filled basements. Superb. http://youtu.be/cjmMzKoykuk

4 (1) FOOTPRINTZ – DANGERS OF THE MOUTH – VISIONQUEST

A big fat pulsing song of electronic psychedelic wizardry that is set to blow your mind and float your boat. Footprintz could be Montreal’s answer to MGMT. Tiga delivers an epic carefully constructed, intricate and very funky Balearic remix, set to warp factor 10 complimenting the song beautifully. Jimmy Edgar also shakes the rump to the funk in a sort of Bladerunner goes post Paisley Park style. http://youtu.be/6hZEB4d6yMk

5 (13) JESSE BOYKINS III & MELO-X – THE PERFECT BLUES – NINJA TUNE

Angelic vocal harmonies soar over majestic ambient washes driven by fragile percussive rhythms, leading to an impressive drama up above the clouds. http://youtu.be/avS3mizaxIE

7 (18) THIS MANY BOYFRIENDS – THIS MANY BOYFRIENDS – ANGULAR RECORDING CORPORATION

Four piece from Leeds that do exceedingly catchy and melodic ramshackle punk rock pop with great lyrics “I don’t like you ‘cos you don’t like The Pastels” bringing Orange Juice, The Smiths and wearing badges to mind. http://youtu.be/amVQhRHAlTk

8 (11) LUND QUARTET – LUND QUARTET – A FUTURE WITHOUT RECORDS

A five piece from Bristol with a debut LP of jazz that breathes without any complicated clutter or fuss. There is something very refreshing and pure about this sound, as it works its way around your grey matter like a pleasant but intriguing smoke. http://youtu.be/5XmQh0lfyQQ

9 (16) SEAMING – SEAMING – THE STATE 51 CONSPIRACY

Stunning debut LP that is original in every sense, taking you to places you’ve never been before. Her unique voice and other worldly musical arrangements create a sense wide eyed magical wonder, if Tim Burton was a composer he might come up with something like this. Seaming To is going to be a star for all the right reasons she has got an outstanding talent. http://youtu.be/5ZXAdkrQhM0

10 (NEW) THE DEADSTOCK 33S – RITUAL EP – SOLITARY CYCLIST

The debut release on Justin Robertson’s brand new label comes from no other than the man himself. The title cut is a basement banger with microdot influences giving off a sense of fun and confusion. The following Jamit is like trudging through the thick & gloopy sweet sticky stuff whilst dabbing your sweat with blotters, and finally Watch Me is busy & paranoid but with a good dose of humour. Which sort of sums it up really, a very welcome return.

11 (5) CRYBABY – WE’RE SUPPOSED TO BE IN LOVE – HELIUM

The third single to be lifted from the modern crooner’s critically acclaimed LP comes backed with three brand new heartbreakers. Sprinkle some stardust on your quiff. http://youtu.be/afmpQVe8sRE

12 (20) MOLINER – YELLOW RIGHTS EP – DEPAART

Deep house Madrid style with creative use of the spoken word vocal. The title cut takes an empowering preacher route, whilst the flip Emilia gets blissed out and stoned. Nice. http://youtu.be/iiYv1ORxnx8

13 (19) DAN LE SAC FT. MERZ – LONG NIGHT OF LIFE – SUNDAY BEST

The lush string drenched opening track on his debut solo LP Space Between The Words gets a well deserved single release. Comes with a nice set of mixes from Merz, Losers and an awesome trip among the stars care of Sunday Best. http://youtu.be/x-ATDt3BcXU

14 (14) BEST FRIENDS – SURF BITCHES – TOO PURE SINGLES CLUB

Trashy West Coast punk pop where The Ramones meet The Beach Boys in an amphetamine fuelled twisting competition in a pool near Sheffield city centre. Meanwhile the equally entertaining Grow Old on the flip, incites plenty of leaping around on sticky carpet in the run down Working Men’s Club. Great stuff. http://youtu.be/Za0t9iO7lOw

15 (NEW) HIDDEN ORCHESTRA – ARCHIPELAGO – TRU THOUGHTS

Their second LP is going to spread their ever growing fanbase even further afield, as sweeping melodies and image inducing soundtracks, work their way over delicate to bombastic rhythms dipping into hip hop and jazz as they build into crescendos and drop into drifting emptiness. http://youtu.be/DFGc1gxZZ2w

16 (25) DJ STEEF – THE PRELIMINARY EP – TOY TONICS

No less than six new tracks of house that edge towards the deeper side. The opening Venusian Missing features a hooky disco jazz funk falsetto vocal. Fomo Men follows in a heads down no nonsense tracky style, before Nocturne transports us into a funky future. More Lifes gets the pulses racing again, while Angels Behind The Bar is a chunky space jazz tinged number, and the closing Fleche has got a certain 90’s club feel about it. More like an LP than an EP. http://youtu.be/4TSDHWfdmf8

17 (NEW) FAKE BLOOD – YES / NO EP – DIFFERENT

Head straight for Bionic, an infectious slab of 21st century techy house that will work its way under your skin and around your grey matter until you’re dancing like a short circuiting android in the shower. http://youtu.be/LWchi0scMfM

18 (23) STUMBLEINE – THE BEAT MY HEART SKIPS FT. COMA – MONOTREME

The first single to be lifted from the Bristol based electronic producer’s debut LP Spiderwebbed, is a hazy sunshine on morning dew ethereal affair with ghostly swirling vocals that have got a bit of a Liz Frasier feel about them. Mushrooms anyone? http://youtu.be/SiAOmkqgIhU

19 (NEW) DISCLOSURE – LATCH FT. SAM SMITH – PMR

Glossy, soulful and pop savvy, watch this fly. http://youtu.be/EdL-0wDrjPU

20 (NEW) THE KNOCKS – LEARN TO FLY (COM TRUISE REMIX) – A&M

Debut LP of well thought out and carefully crafted electronic pop songs with substance, harmonies, glitch and the odd ambient wash. Includes the Jagz Kooner mix of Vintage and last year’s excellent Three Crowns single. http://youtu.be/WK0cHZm8FQQ

25 (26) TOM ELLIS – HOPENOSIS EP – INDIGO RAW

Three lush deep cuts with just a subtle amount of twist, as slightly spaced velvet tones glide over and around warm bass lines with padded house rhythms. Quality.

26 (NEW) ROSES GABOR – STARS / NIGHT SKY – GIRLS MUSIC

After collaborations with Gorillaz, Buraka Sound Sistema, SBTRKT and Shy FX, Roses Gabor makes a quality double edged debut on Toddla T’s label. Both cuts buzz with club excitement and post night out journeys home in the early hours.

27 (NEW) JACK FELL DOWN – EITHER WAY EP – SOUTHERN FRIED

Four cuts of lush deepness with a variety of influences. The stand out track Roll Over takes old school soulful house, complete with familiar riffs and vocal cut ups, then fuses them with todays production styles and gets a great result.

28 (28) ALPHABET BACKWARDS – LITTLE VICTORIES – HIGHLINE

Eagerly awaited debut LP of quintessentially English pop from Oxford. Packed with melodies and harmonies dipping in melancholy & soaring with overcome joy. So this is what it’s like growing up in a rural village during the summer holidays.

29 (30) SKYE – FEATHERLIGHT – PIAS

The teaser single to the Morcheeba front woman’s third solo LP is a stripped back affair, and sees her soft and sensual breathy tones work their magic over pulsing synths and a straight up drum machine, which gives it an 80’s pop feel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCKVPN8E1iM

30 (NEW) LAPALUX – SOME OTHER TIME EP – BRAINFEEDER

The opening Quartz is built around a dusty music box refrain, nursery rhyme simplicity and distant spooky vocals, making it a bit scary, a bit toys in the attic. In complete contrast Forgetting And Learning Again Ft. Kerry Leatham is a warm song with rich textures that makes you want to snuggle up in front of the fire. Out there electronics with depth. http://youtu.be/CJB60dUTiX8
