Late night grooving at the best after hour parties in town
“Music is an inevitable part of our life. We don’t even know when and where people started to listen music. It is obvious that music is as old as the human being in this world. We were listening to the different sounds and the type of rhythms even when we are not brought out to this world of noise and rhythms and music. Even those who think they are not a musical person are able to differentiate between the rhythms and beat of music. There are many different types of music today in the world. If anyone ask what kind of music I listen to, I simply say MUSIC, as long as it’s quality. From Stravinskj to Gershwin to Miles Davies to Stevie Wonder to Kraftwerk all the way up to House Music. To be a music producer today you need to be aware of many styles, jazz, funk, soul, r’n’b, pop, drum n’bass, electro-house and so on. The effect of music’s richness and intensity is what hits me at my core and has kept me buying records since the age of 13. It’s this constant search for the new and interesting that music styles intertwine and morph into new sounds but in the end, if you want to create something new, you always have to go back. And this Back to Mine is simply a very small part of me…”
1) The O’ Jays – I Love Music (Philadelphia Records)
This is a true Philly-disco masterpiece from the 1975. I like this song because it explains how I feel about music. I love music – any kinds of music…!!
2) Roy Ayers – Don’t Stop The Feeling (Polydor Records)
From 1979 and definitely one of my favourite Roy Ayers songs. He was really ahead of his time with this track . An excellent arrangement!! Can’t miss it in my vinyl collection..!!
3) Bob James – Westchester Lady – (Cti Records)
I bought this beautiful 12” when I went to San Francisco in ‘98 from a record shop on Market Street. This is a classy Jazz funk/ fusion anthem, it has a haunting backbeat which invites the main theme. A must for any collector!!!
4) Slick – Space Bass – (Fantasy Records)
Slick were the instrumental section of Fat Larry’s Band, scored great disco success in 1979 with the jazz-funk classic “Space Bass” and comes packed deep with a mesmerising bass line. A superb, cosmic disco funk track, with great high pitched, dream-like vocals and a strong but pleasant rolling bass line; with an electronic edge. One of my favourite of the 70’s. Pure dynamite for the dancefloor..!!!
5) Man Friday – Love Honey , Love Heartache (Vinylmania Records)
Love Honey, Love Heartache’ is most definitely one of my favourite Larry Levan productions and the demo version for me is the best. This track has a groovy bass line and ramping up the electro funk elements. I have two copies of this Paradise Garage classic.
6) Kraftwerk – Tour De France – (EMI Records)
This is definitely my favourite song from the band. It is notable for the use of sampled voices and mechanical sounds associated with cycling that were used to supplement a simple electro-percussion pattern. This track was released on ‘83 but his sound still like a future production….Amazing…!!!
7) Donna Summer – Melody Of Love (Morales Classic Club Mix) – (Casablanca Records)
Melody Of Love by Donna Summer was a Billboard #1 Dance Single/Club hit for Summer 1995. The song was produced by Clivilles and Cole of C&C Music Factory. The remix by David Morales is simply wonderful, it is always in my bag…..!!!!
8) Sade – Couldn’t Love You More – (Love Deluxe Records)
Every time that I listen to this song from the beginning to the end I feel in heaven. Her voice is like a silk and I really love this bass line..the sax when it comes in… the pianos and strings because they are so simple and relaxing… A timeless masterpiece…!!
9) Frankie Knuckles Presents Satoshi Tomiie – Tears (Classic Vocal) – (FFRR Records)
Tears is one of the biggest House anthems of all time. It was the debut single on ‘89 from Japan’s Satoshi Tomiie under the guidance of Frankie Knuckles with vocals from Robert Owens…100% old school classic…!!!
10) FPI Project – Rich In Paradise / Going Back To My (Paradise Project Records)
In the late 80s/early ’90s Italian producers Marco Fratty, Corrado Presti and Roberto Intrallazzi aka F.P.I. Project released a string of dancefloor classics that introduced Italo-house to the club world. The sound was instantly recognizable: huge piano samples, shouty vocals, a racing beat — in short, the elements that made up most house singles. This is my favourite Italo house classic..!!!
