Back To Mine Martyn Ware (Heaven 17)

Late night grooving at the best after parties in town…

Quincy Jones, Barry White, James Ingram, Al B. Sure, El Debarge – Secret Garden

This is possible the ultimate lovemaking song – nuff said.

Al Green – People Get Ready

The magnificent voice of Al Green is untouchable on this beautifully melodic rendition.

Quincy Jones feat. Patti Austin – Love Me By Name

OMG – Quincy at his sonically purest – absolutely touching and impeccable vocal performance from Patti Austin gets me every time.

Miguel – Kaleidoscope Dream

Miguel interests me as an artist – I very much like his unique take on ‘nu-soul’ – and without doubt his songwriting is of a very high standard

Minnie Riperton – Completeness

One of the most beautiful voices that ever walked the earth – her vocal range was astonishing, and the production of her early albums is so good they’d probably make it into my top ten ever.

Nouvelle Vague – Let Me Go

I had to include our favourite Heaven 17 song, this time performed in Brazilian style – and it really suits it, almost (but not quite) better than the original!

Massive Attack – Teardrop

Massive Attack come a close second for post clubbing seduction music – and I don’t think there has ever been a cooler band in my humble opinion – their work is untouchable.

Graham Central Station – People

Beautiful sentiment and immaculate musicianship from Larry Graham and his elegant crew.

Frank Ocean – Pyramids

Thank God for Frank Ocean – his bravery standing for his gay rights in a largely homophobic business sometimes conceals the excellence and imagination of his songwriting and arrangement – bring on the next album.

Justin Timberlake – Blue Ocean Floor

It took me a few listens to get into 20/20 experience – but now I think the album is right up there with his best work – this track in particular is mesmeric.

British Electric Foundation – Music Of Quality and Distinction Vol.3 “Dark”- is out now, and upcoming gigs are on October 3rd in London and October 4th in Sheffield.
