Make no mistake, there is a hell of a lot going on in the new album from Jackson and his Computerband. Sometimes you wonder if one song has been crossbred with another as different styles trample over each other for position, but it’s all strangely effective. To take a few sound bites, ‘G.I. Jane (Fill Me Up)’ sounds like pumped up Justice (in a good way!), ‘Arp #1’ cuts to the quick with its electro disco, while ‘Pump’ sounds like an excerpt from a massive soundtrack. The bass on ‘Dead Living Things’ cuts like a knife but there is a surprisingly graceful backdrop still in play, while the ambitious down tempo track ‘Orgysteria’ reaches for the stars and somehow finds them through a mesmerising set of vocal harmonies. By complete contrast ‘Blood Bust’ is up for a fight, pummelling its beats into the ground. There is a lot of invention here, and while sometimes it’s a bit ragged, it is often inspiring and energetic.
