Four years on from breaching the pop charts with ‘Right On!’, Silicone Soul deliver the edifyingly rich new studio set. Immediately drawing comparisons to Jazzanova and their mutual love for deep jazz and modern beats. Embracing their funk-influenced past, whilst amalgamating contemporary electronica forces. A cross-pollination of dubbed out grooves (‘Folie A Deux’ and ‘Inferno’) and house (‘Les Nocturnes’) – the latter blending live musicianship with samples loops and psychedelic soundscapes. ‘On Feeling Blue’, the lead single, Craig Morrison and Graeme Reedie reunite up with Louise Marshall, the voice ‘Right On!’, and leave nothing to chance with a beautifully crafted anthemic composition (borrowing its hook from a Candi Staton composition) that melds chunky house grooves with disco strings and funky guitar riffs. The only other vocal offering features label mate Envoy on the lacklustre ‘You Can’t Lose What You Never Had’ – a downbeat number that sounds surprisingly out of place, and is the only blot on an otherwise impeccable collection.
