Back To Mine with Nils Noa

After hours grooving…

1. Mari Boine – Gula Gula (Chillimunati Remix)

I’m a big big fan of Mari Boine. She is an Norwegian artist that is of same origin. This remix done by Norwegian pioneers Per Martinsen and Nick Silitoe under their Chilluminati guise. Their take on Gula Gula is the perfect blend of electronic elements mixed with folk music. I never get tire of this song. Would be a dream come true to work with her in the future.

2. Highasakite – Indian summer
This is a band from Norway that I’m a big fan of. I have just worked with the lead singer on my upcoming single, and she is truly amazing. This song Indian Summer is their best song to date in my opinion. And they have a very unique sound that I’m into.

3. Bermuda Triangle – Tay Do 22
We made this song when I was a part of the band Bermuda Triangle almost ten years ago. I’m still proud of this song today. We used an opera singer doing the vocals, and I still play it from time to time at home. Feel blessed to been able to work with such good talents like her.

4. Peter Reinhardt – His Girl Up The Sky (Martin Bausch Remix)
This is the song I have put on in my flat coming home from gigs for the last couple of weeks. Wonderful remix by Martin Bausch. Deephouse at its best in my opinion.

5. Nils Noa – Fade Away (Diskjokke Vocal Remix)
Diskjokke is one of the best DJs and producers in Norway. We are both residents at The Villa in Oslo and been a part of the scene here for many years. He plays records as good as he produces, and in my opinion there are not many of his kind. When he wanted to remix my last radio single his first attempt was not that good, but then he just cracked the code with his second version, as it will also come in a dub form. So glad this came to happen, and that he went in and did a second attempt. Bless you Joachim.

6. James Blake – Limit Your Love (Fredrik Krafft Remix)
I signed Fredrik to my label last year. Great guy and talent from Oslo, and he made this bootleg remix of James Blake and gave me a copy. I have played it as a final track many times in my DJ-sets, and people always come and ask what remix it is. Its on his Soundcloud page, so grab your copy.

7. Hans Zimmer – Goodbye My Son
I have been a big fan of him for many years. This song from the Man Of Steel soundtrack touches me deeply. Many where skeptical to him to write a totally new score after John Williams legendary score used in the previous films, but Zimmer was the perfect choice if you ask me. Many of my friends find him too cheesy, but I’m a sucker for emotional music.

8. Pablo Bolívar – Summer Nights
Omg…. This is such an amazing song. Played it all last summer and this summer. What a genius… It works everywhere. Gets you in the summer vibe even on the darkest winter night. So simple, but yet so strong.

9. King Midas – Snow
They are from Oslo and I’m a big fan. This is the first single from their latest album Rozzo, and actually their first release in 6 years. The whole album is amazing. Check them out, a hidden treasure. Snow has this crossover feel to it, with a warm analog sound and  a bit of a club feel in there as well.

10. Rudimental  – Free ft.Emeli Sandé (Maya Jane Coles Remix)
Brilliant remix from Maya Janes Coles. Dont fit my DJ-sets, but just such a good song. Brings me back to my teens in a very good way. Love it.

Nils Noa – The Jaguar (Troll Records)

Norway’s Nils Noa steps up to release on Troll Records, the label he co runs with fellow Norwegian Christian Sol. The well-travelled DJ and producer serves up one original and dub with fantastic remixes coming from Mungolian Jet Set, Uno Mas and Alex Jangle. Nils Noa is also the resident and booker at respected Oslo club The Villa, has recently signed to Universal Norway and just finished an upcoming single with the lead singer of Norway’s most hyped indie-bands, Highasakite. Here though he is firmly in house mode.
The original track, ‘The Jaguar’ is a thick set tribal groove with sandy hi hats racing alongside the bulky drums. Adding to the carnival feel is a vocal chant ‘here comes the jaguar’ that leads into some sombre but uplifting piano work. It’s an epic long form track of the sort Ripperton or the Innervisions crew would reach for and also comes in dub form.
First of the remixes comes from Mongolian Jet Set, known for their completely mind-absorbing beats, whirling vortices of sonic chaos and psychoacoustic bass warps. Suitably, then, this version is the most out there, with bleepy synth lines, swaggering basslines and otherworldly, gurgling percussion that seems to raise itself up out of a dirty sonic swap. The Uno Mas remix chops things up a little and makes the piano chords more unhinged and playful as they dance about on the well padded beats, whilst close label associate and Norwegian producer Alex Jangle sets to work on his own version. This one is much darker, trackier and more tech house leaning in its wobbly drums and slinky percussive lines, Echoes of the original vocal still lurk on the background but this is a direct cut aimed squarely at busy dancefloors. With not only a fantastic original but some killer and off kilter remixes, this package really does cover all bases for fans of idiosyncratic house music.
