Not the New York hip-hop studio but a Brighton-based Japanese ensemble who’ve released an acclaimed album called The Hungry Years. Haven’t heard the album but, judging from the original song here, they seem to have a way with melodic pop balladry. The treatment by Hot Chip is a good example of how remixes can lift a tune into another dimension with a bit of suss and sympathy. Now Jessie Banks’ vocals – which come on like a delicious hybrid of Kate Bush, sixties pop star and traditional Japanese – are placed over a crystal electro backdrop to intoxicating effect. There’s also a lush instrumental. Baby Ash also turn in a slow-mo dub-wise remix.
