The trustthedj.com label springs back into action with a top-notch selection from Chicken Lips’ Steve Kotey. Joining the dots between the electro, disco and acid-flavoured house that informs the Chicken Lips sound, Kotey provides an informed selection. Aimed at both the connoisseur and dancefloor flunkey alike, it luxuriates in slurred basslines, icy synths and rolling percussion, odd and / or soulful vocals drifting in and out of focus from time to time to captivate the listener. Choice discs include Carl Craig’s rework of Telex “Moskow Disko”, I:Cube’s “Vacuum Jackers”, “Cardiology” by Isolee, The Electronic Boogie Band’s sensational “Dum Funk”, and a nice smattering of Chicken Lips productions and re-productions (of course). Blended rather than mixed, this is the sound of house music as Ron Hardy and his ilk probably imagined it to be.
