Exclusive interview with trance’s main man as FULL ON hits Space Ibiza
Interview : Dan Prince
Ferry welcome back to DMCWORLD, where on planet dance are you right now?
“I’m actually home with my family Dan!”
Well wow what a winter of Ibiza rumours! Amnesia, Privilege, Gatecrasher…but you finally signed on the dotted line at Space – a wonderful – and correct decision dude. So, in your own words…why Space?
“Space is definitely one of the major players in the club scene in Ibiza. It’s been around for a long time and the quality of its nights have always been great. It’s a real treat and an honour to be able to have my event Full On as part of the weekly line-up.”
One of the joys of a Full On Ferry night is the spectacular back to back sets you do with your superstar guests. I know you are most likely to say everyone (!!)…but who are you really looking forward to wowing the Space Ibiza crowds with this summer…?
“You’re right…I will say everyone! What I most love about Full On is the fusion of genres of house and trance throughout the evening. It makes it an absolute pleasure to play with all the artists…not to mention never a dull moment.”
You infamously moved Judge Jules and his very established Judgement Sundays aside at Eden to make way for your Full On Sundays in 2013. What were your thoughts on the ‘new look’ club and your season under new management last year…?
“Simply, Eden is a great club and the renovations done were fantastic.”
What makes Full On such an unforgettable experience…
“Full On is about artists working together on a night to create a wonderful blend of sound. The fact that the sets are back to back make it more challenging. It’s not a battle of the DJs but more of a collaborative. That is what I think makes it so special.”
What are your thoughts on the whole Playa D’en Bossa development? Kicked off by Ushuaia which was followed by amazing new restaurants, the Hard Rock Hotel and even plans for a championship golf course! Are we looking at the new South Beach?
“We’re definitely looking at a progression of Ibiza as an island. It’s definitely come a long way from how the club scene was decades ago. Although the island has definitely had a facelift on so many factors, I think that you won’t be able to shake of the balaeric vibe that is simply unique to the island.”
Why is this magical island so important to, your brand and your happiness?
“Ibiza is a mecca for clubbers around the world. It’s a great place to party, relax and rejuvenate all at the same time. I’ve grown to love the island over the years.”
What is the last song you heard today?
“Art Inc. – ‘Remote’, it is the number 1 track that’s been voted for on my radio show Corsten’s Countdown episode #354. I just recorded the show so it’s the last song I heard today ☺…”
Something you said in an interview last year…“There’s a lack of inspiration that’s going on at the moment, I feel, where everybody just talks about the sound of now, so they wanna make the sound of now. They don’t really wanna make their own sound anymore.” That was five months ago…what are your thoughts now?
“Still the same…”
Some of the producers you are giving high fives to right now?
“I’m a huge fan of one of the artists on my Flashover Recordings label Jacob van Hage. The crowds go crazy when I drop them in my sets. Great guy!”
What are some of your other plans for Full On in 2014…?
“We’re got a whole bunch of shows lined up for Full On this year. We’ve got a tent for both weekends in Tomorrowland Belgium as well as the U.S. You can check out our upcoming dates at www.ferrycorsten.com…”
What is the latest on your fabulous New World Punx partnership with Markus Schulz…any studio work up and coming?
“NWP is doing great! We just rocked in Ultra in Miami and looking forward to our upcoming show in Amsterdam in a month’s time, and we’ve been very busy in the studio lately.”
Miami just experienced what everyone is calling their best every WMC/Ultra. Avicii took over a hotel, Afrojack rented Ferraris, the skyline has never been so full of planes and banners, there were over 50 parties a day. What are your thoughts on how EDM has taken over Miami and the US…
“It’s great how EDM has grown to become a commercial name in the U.S. It’s great for the sound and for everyone involved. It allows the opportunity for more artists’/ talents to be heard.”
Maybe now would be the time to do that chill out album you have always been promising us…?
Hahahaha…maybe…”
