Puff Daddy & Guy Gerber – 11:11 – (Rumors)

Puff Daddy – P Diddy – or however he likes to be known at the moment – has quite a bit of previous with house music, as a producer and vocalist with the likes of Deep Dish and DJ Hell. Here he rubs shoulders with Guy Gerber on a substantial album that is probably best described as deep house – but which ticks a number of other Balearic boxes as well. These are powerful if slightly melancholic tracks, surprisingly downbeat in the mellow horns of ‘Floating Messiah’, or lush in the case of ‘I Hear You Calling Me’. Elsewhere ‘Let Go’ builds up an impressive head of steam, ‘Angels’ is a strong and subtly emotive deep houser, while ‘Indian Summer’ is a lovely heat-soaked track with a nagging riff. Only on ‘My Heart’ do things threaten to get a bit self-indulgent, with a vocal that declares ‘I’m so strong I could cut myself’, but even that takes second stage to the accomplished production work these two have made together. And it’s free to own from here!
