Great expectations come from a product bearing the Superdiscount name, especially when you consider how successful the first one was back in 1995, a launching pad for French dance music as we know it today. Twenty years on, the product has the same high level of quality, and if it might not sound as original as it did back then, there is no doubt de Crecy is still relevant and on exceptionally good form. As if to prove he’s up to date we have the amusing and incredibly funky ‘Hashtag My Ass’ as well as the powerful ‘Night (Cut The Crap)’ that kick starts the album with a bang. ‘Smile’ revisits the winning combination de Crecy has enjoyed with Alex Gopher, while the intriguing closing track ‘Family’ is a soft centred number with Baxter Dury. Throughout there are lashings of chunky funk, big bass lines and original beats to keep us entertained, with de Crecy’s sense of humour and sensitive sides both revealed. He’s definitely still got it.
