Jonny Cade – Work It Out – (Lost Records)

Leftwing & Kody’s LOST imprint has enjoyed a pretty steady rise to prominence, buoyed by the fact that they’ve released some great music to date. One man whose own musical agenda has been on a similar incline recently is Jonny Cade, the prolific UK producer who seems to be releasing an EP every other month. Mind you, we’re not complaining, as EPs such as that opn Music Is Love confirm Jonny as a talent we’re sure to be hearing plenty more of over the next coming months. Anyway, his latest endeavour is called the Work It out EP, and as his forte, it’s full of the sort of enchanting house hues that make him such a potent force in the first place. The original is a sure fire party-starter with a mound of cowbells and a fat bottom end that’ll ensure it slays the floor each and every time. Full of drama and twists and turns, it’s Cade at his very best. ‘Here to Stay’ is an equally discerning beast. Again, it’s multilayered and catchy and Cade is nothing if not an insanely talented mane in the studio. The last of Cade’s originals is the perc heavy timbres of ‘Whack Ass’, whereby the producer summons up a large bassline and pairs it with a ghetto-esque vocal that’ll take some beating. The first of the customary mixes comes from Tapesh, who tackles Work It Out in typically uncompromising fashion. His mix is dedicated to a host of cymbals and snares, and it brings the original towards a thrilling climax. Raffa FL’s mix of ‘Here to Stay’, meanwhile, is another monster of a track – and one that’s clearly been crafted with the more ‘full on’ side of the agenda in mind.
