MORCHEEBA
THE ANTIDOTE
ECHO

Daisy Martey’s elevation to lead singer in place of the solo-seeking Skye Edwards coincides (or is the cause of) Morcheeba returning in sharper, edgier, rockier form, decorated with a tempting 60s slant unconcerned with big calms. Martey’s performance has got a particular strong-willed, domineering, ‘boots are made for walking’ attitude to it when it comes to working the mic and redressing the balance; ‘Everybody Loves a Loser’ is the rebuttal of a woman cutting up her cheating husband’s best suits. ‘Antidote’ presents a poser for Morcheeba fans who may make way for newcomers catching wind.
