I love me a bit of Copy Paste Soul. They just work for me when I want to tear up a tech house floor. So what about this Pong EP ? If you liked Paul Woolford’s now classic ‘Erotic Discourse’ then you have the measure of ‘Pong’s hard hitting acidics but add a swirling vocal and some manic zipped effects and you know it is going to make the finger-dancing peeeeeepul kerrrrraaazzzzeee. It’s just one of those indispensable additions to your usb arsenal. ‘ME1’ (in collaboration with Lunacy Sound Division) is a dark brooding sleaze-up that opens the valves to let the pressure out then overtightens them without a by your leave. It’s all about the acid burn and the buzzing, drum and bass sounding bassline – close your eyes and you could be dancing at a Metalheadz party but in slower motion. ‘Voyager’ is a brooding stalagmite that grows to the ceiling via its bold cello strokes, rolling beats, searing strings, and swirling synth washes. And to close, ‘System 1’ is an arpeggiated then pitched excursion that will have you thinking you’re trapped in level six of an Inception dream. They get my vote.
