It’s the turn of young Belgian, Netsky – one of drum and bass’s favourite underground producers – to make an assault on the national charts with ‘Rio’ a sun drenched, uplifting jump up cut. A Tinie Tempah-ish drawl provides the vocal bubble over the lazy organ and speaker blazing bass line intro whilst splashing, frothing triple time beats, jamming pianos and funk horns provide the cork-popping fizz. It’s a forum splitter for sure, with some wishing a return to the darker, dirty vibes that made his name via Hospital Records but much like deep house, nu-house, garage, old skool and rave before it – it had to happen sometime. And if it’s good enough for Rudimental, Sigma, Wilkinson and DJ Fresh then surely there’s room for another littl’un. No matter what you think, it rocks regardless.
