No longer the hidden gem of sorts of old, Mexico has been busy churning out top-grade house and techno talent for some time now. The latest such individual to arrive on our senses from that perspective is 2UP, a producer who – on this evidence at least – would appear to have a big future ahead of him. He comes out of the blocks here with the stunning Many Colors, a collaborative effort that sees him work alongside the vocalist Velika on a hearty, spirited effort that does no harm to the reputations of either individual.
A truly stunning piece of work, the original gets under the skin with a real gusto, leading the listener down a path that’s stuffed to the brim with unlikely sound combinations and euphoric, blissful moments. The counter-balance to all this is the remix from the Sounds of Earth label boss, Vazik. His remix is crafted on a tougher and more straight-up tip, as he prefers to let the bassline reign supreme on his remix. Later on – and the EP’s curtain closer – we have another track by 2UP and Velika, who prove themselves to be some combo on this release. “Matter of Time” again showcases their introspective side, as it thrills us with some glistening beats and a range of rich chords. Essential listening.
