I loved Ane Brun’s sublime ‘One Last Try’ that was released earlier this year – I found her voice has a fragility and power that wends its way beautifully into your psyche. I also like records that push the envelope somehow in their creation and Ane Brun achieves this once again in ‘Shape of A Heart’. Released on her own label, Balloon Ranger, ‘Shape Of A Heart’ unleashes her middle eastern flavoured vocals which are then tightly woven into the rich and rolling fabric of a deep house magic carpet. The La Fleur remix is subtle, smooth and understated yet packs a funky and confident punch when heard filtering through a big sound system. The Dante Remix is a downtempo Moombahton / Trap hybrid that edits the vocals and wraps them like a cobra around trickling xylophone keys and tight snares. It’s unusual and it works super well on the dance floor. Full of eastern promise.
