Volkoder – Different Beat EP – (Suara)

Volkoder always tickles my tech house fancy – offering a blend of phat beats, room filling arrangements and a precise balance between the prince of darkness and angel of paradise that sits perfectly midway between your speakers. ‘Different Beat’ works a sweet r n b / pop vocal loop into a thudding and crashing, slow tech workout that will burn any floor like an unmanned acetylene torch. Lee Foss shows ‘Different Beat’ some ticklish techno 808 love whilst ‘March Quick’ is a squelch through the clicking clave club mud in every dark and booming speaker corner you can find – you won’t regret it. It’s a percussive roller with MC’ed ‘hip hop’ vocal excitement and a sleazy, slithery bassline that could slip a bikini off quicker than James Bond. ‘Be Happy’ is an upbeat, housey dance off that will see Olympic standard shuffling on the floors that matter. Finally ‘Maniacio’ is a ghetto bass speaker phreaker with its rapped vocal, depth charged, chorussed bass line and Oizo-esque effects. It’s nasty in the nicest of ways.
