Onno and Per Hammar – Mob Action (AVOTRE)

AVOTRE, well known on the tech house circuit, have just released this collaborative piece between a man who’s music has been described as gangsta techno, and someone whose experience stretches back to being a 6 year old with a toy Yamaha keyboard. ONNO, with his ‘gangsta techno’ cut his teeth in Amsterdam, soon becoming a resident at the notorious Chemistry parties. Then moved on to playing at Panorama Bar, Watergate and Bar 25, proof of the pedigree of the hip hop influenced DJ. Per Hammer, now an established Swedish DJ / producer, running both the Dirty Hands label as well as his own club, Kiloton. Together, they make a formidable pair. This 3 track EP begins with ‘Mob Action’, the lightest track on the record, and while it is not a main room heavy hitter, it is still a class, involving and sometimes wonky track. ‘Dub Sketch’ is a bigger, heavier track. Rippling dub techno chords add a real sense of weight and depth. The variation between the two tracks is indicative of the broad talents of both ONNO and Per Hammer. No doubt, these two have done themselves and AVOTRE proud on this one. Lastly, Luca Agnelli, producing for AVOTRE for the first time, takes ‘Mob Action’ by the scruff of the neck, creating a pounding techno roller. It is a Jeff Mills-esque take on the original, and is a naughty end to what is an ace release from AVOTRE.
