Made In Paris

The Sydney superstar in the house. Ooh la la

Interview by Rob Chadwick

Made In Paris is a Sydney based DJ/Producer currently making waves on the electronic circuit, over there and across Europe. With a release coming up on Motorik Recordings, we caught up with her to find out more about her background and plans for the future…

So, Paris, what do you stand for, what do you look to achieve with your music and how would you best describe your sound?

Well, I don’t know so much on what I stand for but I do know that I just want to achieve creating tasteful music that you want to listen to over and over. The music that doesn’t age, it stays great. And most importantly be able to play it out, create dance floors and share it with the world. As for my sound, it’s on the darker side, with evolving melodic synths and deep basslines.

How do you look back on your early years as a raver? How have your tastes changed since then?

I laugh a little. It definitely started somewhere between dance and electro house.. then progressed into the more heavy electro techno type stuff. But I’ve never been so in-love with music then right now. Since about a year ago, I started digging a little deeper searching for music and was going to a lot more underground parties in Sydney that were playing amazing tech, house and techno varieties. This stuff just hits the soul, and I finally found my place within the music industry. In which this EP shows where I want to be.

So what sort of music did you grow up with then? And when did you become interested in house music?

Wait, I think i’ve just answered most of this question with the above ^^ haha

So how did you learn to make music? Did you take classes? Or just through trial and error on your laptop?

I haven’t taken any classes so it’s pretty much been trial and error. I just downloaded Ableton, A couple of plugins and YouTube, forums etc have helped me along the way.

Tell us a little about your upcoming EP on Motorik? Tell us about the process of the release coming together?

I made the 3 original tracks over last summer after finding this new love for music. Once I was totally happy with all three, I decided to get a final mix down from Francis Xavier whom is apart of the Motorik team. The boys all had a listen whilst the mixdown was in process and approached me and wanted to sign it.

And why did you choose the remixers that you did for the tracks? How do you think they represented your originals?

The remixes were chosen by the label. I approved all 3 and love that they all brought something different to each mix.

It has been released on Motorik Recordings, tell us a bit why you chose this label and can we expect to hear more from you on it?

I’ve loved this label since my earlier days of coming into the techno scene. I love their releases, parties and what they are about/stand for… So it’s only natural that releasing with them is a big tick off the list.

How long did it take until you got to a stage where you were pretty assured with your sound?

This is recent. I’d say within the last year. I think this is due to the fact I’ve found my sound that I’m truly passionate about. And another factor would be that I did not come from a musical background, So this year I did some piano lessons which helped with reading music and my melodies.

From that point of view, which track of yours was the biggest challenge to put together?

Defused – I did a total 180 on it about a month before sending it off as I was not totally happy with it. It sounds amazing now so I’m glad I made that decision.

And when you’re coming up with a new track, what do you start on? Is it the drums, melodies etc?

I think it changes sometimes a bassline, A melody or even an amazing drum kick.

Where do you see your sound developing in the future?

Hopefully Berlin, London.

And what else have you coming up that you’d like to shout about?

I’ve almost completed a new 2 track EP which will be needing to find a home very soon. I also have a official remix coming out on a large european electronic label this month. Other then that i’ll be focusing in on shows, Just in Aus for now, but I hope to be doing some traveling in 2016…

Peace!
