DWIGHT TRIBLE & THE LIFE FORCE TRIO
LOVE IS THE ANSWER
NINJA TUNE

To make it short this LP is this year’s ‘Black Gold of The Sun’. Although it is really  too mellow and too wide for such a comparison. It is definitely the best stoned, astral jazz with a fat slug of hip hop album you’ll hear all year. Dwight himself is a legendary old bird, sometime singer with Pharoah Saunders and sports both a skullcap and a goatee. He croons beautifully with a rich, soft voice and favours lyrics about peace, love and faraway, glittering constellations. The production is gorgeously modern with cuts from Sa-Ra and Daedalus that include a breathtaking revamp of 70s fusion and some bitingly focused hip hop. Its an album of dazzling combinations: something that sounds like Zapp remixing The Last Poets giving way to an acid jazz wet-dream of looped bongos and electric pianos that hum off into golden echoes. And there’s always Dwight, talking, humming and singing about love and the universe in that soulful, warm voice…it all adds up to one truly great album although the lyrics are in a decade of their own.
