Fast becoming one of the wonders of the dark tech dj booth, Sidney Charles shrink wraps a four track ep for 20/20 Records Editions imprint and lets the music and melodies do the talking. The title track ‘Keep It Real’ is a bloopy chugger that thuds and skids on the kick, trips on the snares and wiggles with the synths and sustained strings. It blooms into an acid drop frenzy too which makes it just as enjoyable whether straight or twisted. ‘Flak94’ is like aural acid reflux, it burns and returns then stops then starts all over again. It’ll make you jack like Fleetwood Mac. ‘Paraswing’ is all about the smudged sub funk and bleep melody and nest-building woodpecker click track. ‘Rookie’ is no beginner with its dark tech soul and vocal and classic techno percussion. Assured as always, it swings. And then some.
