Edinburgh‚s Steve Mason, Richard Greentree, John MacLean & Robin Jones are / were collectively known as The Beta Band, one of the most inspiring groups to emerge from the 90’s. It’s a crying shame that they didn’t get the worldwide recognition that they so rightfully deserved, maybe they were just a little bit too out there for the masses to latch on to, coming over like a modern day psychedelic version of The Monkees with some cool funky rhythms. So it comes with great sorrow to tell you that the lads have thrown the towel in, but they’ve gone out on a blast, leaving us with ‘Music / Film – The Best Of’, a double CD & DVD, which contains all your Beta Band favourites, from the early stuff ‘Dry The Rain’, ‘Inner Meet Me’ and ‘She’s The One’, through to the sample shenanigans of ‘Squares’ and on to the blissed out fog of ‘Wonderful’, plus you get a bonus disc of a gig The Beta Band did at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on their farewell tour. All four members are still working music and you’ll be pleased to hear that Steve Mason has resurrected King Biscuit Time, but together as The Beta Band they were the bollocks.
