Building on last year’s magnificent debut album ‘Music By Cavelight’, Anthony Simon’s second album is dedicated to the downtown area of Manhattan, where he has lived all his life, and it’s peppered with autobiographical references. Once again the way in which he uses sample techniques is highly individual and rewarding, with ‘The Art Of Walking’ a classic blend. Elsewhere he ups the guitar quotient (‘Good Block Bad Block’) or introduces stately keyboard loops (‘Quiet Storm’), all executed over a warm, full-bodied bass sound. A superb record, one of the downtempo treats of the year.
