Cutting straight to the chase when it comes to record titles, Bakura do at least deliver on their promises. DJ Mitsu – resident beatsmith for Japanese hip-hop group Gogle – turns “Thinking About You” into a Slum Village meets Roy Ayers styled low-end groove, relaxed vocals over mellow hooks. The song “Lately” is given a touch of spice by Recloose, a mix which might surprise fans of his usual Detroit electronic odysseys. It favours a dubbed out skank not unlike Fat Freddy’s Drop as nu-jazz styled keys and fx are gradually added to the mix. Domu rounds things off with the bass heavy 2-step dub of “Bada”. Very nice indeed.
