Deftones – Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
This album is one of my top albums from my teenage years. I was really into metal and hardcore in
Mercury Rev – Holes
Mercury Rev – Holes In 1998 Mercury Rev delivered Deserter’s Songs, a hit album. Almost every note communicates emotional fragility and nostalgia for lost love, lost youth, lost dreams. Always I hear “Holes”, the opening track of Deserter’s Songs, my feeling is that there is something much larger than myself, something enveloping and immersive. (Hugo)
The Cure – Push
I remember hearing ‘The Head on The Door’ vinyl at my father’s house when I was a kid. I think it was a present from some of his bohemian friends at that time. Years later I stole this record from him, I still keep that copy in my collection. The melodies on this song are amazing. I really like the dreamy but dark vibes it has, and I always thought the structure of it is kind of a loop. (Ángel)
Suede – Animal Nitrate
I absolutely LOVED this when I was 17-18. I thought it was
Gang Of Four – Natural’s Not In It
It still amazes me how modern and contemporary is the sound of this album. I think it’s an absolute jewel of Post Punk. The sharp sound of the guitars and basslines mixed with the danceable groove and energy captured on the songs are the perfect ingredients that make this album one of my favorites. (Ángel)
David Bowie – Space Oddity
When something is so extraordinarily magical, all the words are left over. (Hugo)
Weezer – Undone – The Sweater Song
What can I say about this
(Ángel)
dEUS – Instant Street
dEUS are a sadly under-appreciated Belgian art rock band. Instant Street is a six-minute-plus epic of a song, thanks to the elaborate outro. The first time I heard this song was in an unforgettable concert. It was 20 years ago and I didn`t know the band. The music of the Belgian group broke my heart, and this especially happened with Instant Street. After almost 20 years hearing this song I still think it’s a fucking masterpiece. (Hugo)
PJ Harvey – Big Exit
Polly Jean wrote this magnificent compendium of songs about love / lovelessness, creating a contemporary rock classic. I love the production on this album, clean but wild, kind of austere but with a full range of emotions. Her voice is so brilliant on every song, I feel like it’s kind of a inner road trip. (Ángel)
Los Planetas – Segundo Premio
Los Planetas (The Planets) is a Spanish indie rock group strongly influenced by English-language rock bands such as Joy Division or Television Personalities. No article about Spanish indie would be complete without a mention of Los Planetas. Segundo Premio easily is in my top 5 songs of all time. I have heard it a thousand times and I have learnt the words by heart. Amazingly enough, every time I hear it something hard to explain happen inside me. (Hugo)
Mordisco – Nocta EP (My Favorite Robot Records)
The Mordisco DJ and production duo return to Canadian label My Favorite Robot for a stellar new single, while quality remixes come from Sascha Funke and Javi Redondo. Angel and Hugo hail from Granada in the south of Spain and first came together in 2011. They craft mid-tempo house, disco and techno that makes a lasting impression thanks to its opulent bass sounds, synth melodies and hypnotic percussion. They also run and are residents at their own Mordisco party as well as playing around the rest of Europe and releasing on labels like My Favorite Robot’s MFR Red Series, Paper Recordings and Midnight Riot Records. Superb opener ‘Nocta’ is a scintillating track that has dub disco flavours embellished with slick synth work and a real sense of cosmic serenity. It’s an elongated cut that really takes you on an adventure. Sascha Funke is a master of warm, deep sounds and regularly serves them up on the likes of Kompakt and BPitch Control. Here he is in fine form as he flips the original into a mellifluous and glowing,
