It was in the summer of 2004 that Nouvelle Vague unleashed their album of post punk covers, & since then they’ve become a bit of a phenomenon, getting ridiculous amounts of critical acclaim & loads of radio play, generating quite a substantial amount of sales, deservedly so. Nouvelle Vague are French and their name translates as both New Wave & Bossa Nova, now you can see where they’re coming from. ‘I Melt With You’ is a cover of the Modern English hit, and comes over like a long lost Velvet Underground classic, wrapped in cotton wool & shot through with a warming substance. On the flip you’ll find a steamy latin version of The Undertones geek anthem’Teenage Kicks’, transformed into breathy soft porn. Both cuts are outstanding, and if you haven’t got the album, what planet are you on.
