Release No.50 for the Californian label and its principles are as strong as ever, with a selection of raw funk and soul to blow away the winter cobwebs. Some rare stuff here, and the likes of Mary Love, Project Soul and Mike Selesia ensure things go off with a swing. Top of the tree, though, are the extraordinary vocal performances on Sugar Pie DeSanto’s ‘Straighten It Out With Your Man’ and The Windjammers’ ‘Poor Sad Child’, vocals at the opposite ends of the spectrum. No need for the skip button here!
