If living in the shadows of Mylo has taught Duncan Reid’s alter ego anything, then it’s that eclectic sells. One moment EQing filtered disco loops, the next easing the tempos for a country parody that Dolly Parton would be happy to call her own. But this is no mish-mash of sounds thrown together to cash-in on the Stevie Nick’s revival that ‘The Terrace’ sparked. Linus Loves’ funk is chewier then most, employing tuneful and obscure samples, as typified by ‘VH1’; ‘The Victoria Principle’ pushes the electro bpms down a notch with a DFA-esque growling punked bassline. Comparisons will invariably be made to those closest to home, yet by plucking a selection of modern classic styles made famous by the likes of Kraftwerk and Madonna, and twinning them with some lesser-known gems from the ever-snowballing electro revival, Linus Loves is steadily forging their own identity.
