Jay Haze & Samim are the two faces behind the splendidly monikered Fuckpony, already turning heads and ears with their singles “Ride The Pony” & “Cellphone Hit” (both included here). The Fuckpony sound is shaped from what’s driving the cooler floors right now. Stipped to the core electronics, minimal funk aesthetics, and retro Chicago memories refried with noughties acid technology, that’s where this albums head is most definitely at. Yet there’s also a distinct rootsy vibe to some of the cuts, like “Freaky Story Of Earth”, and “Get Pony”, both roughing up the bass frequencies and riding warm keyboard washes. “Mafalda” even features a full song showing the guys do have ears for other styles, too. That said, Fuckpony is all about the good old days of jacking to house music, all night long. And that’s no bad thing.
