SANDOZ
LIVE IN THE EARTH [SANDOZ IN DUB CHAPTER 2]
SOUL JAZZ

Bit of a late mention for a gem of a release from Richard Kirk, currently undergoing something of a renaissance on techno imprint Dust Science. This time he’s mining a much deeper seam, more akin to Prince Far I’s legendary Cry Tuff Dub Encounter series, first tackled on 2002’s ‘Sandoz In Dub: Chant To Jah’ set. It’s dub, Jim, but not as we know it. Using techno tones and discreet samples, the former Cabaret Voltaire man strikes at this timeless music’s soul. Moody, majestic and often jaw-dropping. Tracks like ‘Thousand Year Dread’ and ”Monopolize And Destroy’ are subterranean and booming, modern companions to dub classics by the likes of King Tubby, Scientist and Adrian Sherwood. Richard obviously loves and feels this music but it’s not only a recreation or tribute. The very heart of dub beats loud and proud in here.
