Glasgow’s Union Of Knives have definitely got something going on here, as they lay anthemic rock songs over tribal, techno & electro beats. “Violence & Birdsong” opens with the slugging groove of “Opposite Direction”, which comes over like Leftfield doing a Californian Sunshine stint. “Evil Has Never” is not far behind, rising up in Snow Patrol fashion, and then shot through with chunky house rhythms. The rolling toms of the brilliant “I Decline” are up next, imagine Danny Tenaglia giving U2 a dance floor boost. In contrast “Taste For Harmony” does what it says on the tin, as soft vocals breeze over sweet rhythms. I just knew there had to be a Radiohead moment here, and the bombastic “Go Back To School” certainly doesn’t disappoint. “Violence & Birdsong” also has it’s Underworld moments, in fact it’s got a certain mid 90’s feel about it, but it also sounds like it could send Union Of Knives riding high in the charts, as they prepare to win over festival goers, as well as the Later With Jools Holland brigade.
