Kiki’s opening salvo of this series set an impossibly high benchmark but Berlin’s Sascha Funke has followed on with another inspiring voyage. After the plaintive, semi-classical keyboard strains of Efdemin’s ‘Jeans’ have set a tone, it’s into the sprase, elastic riffage of Tomson & Daniel De La Curtis’ ‘Synthic’ and off into a steadily-building string of deep, whispery minimal excursions from names including Villobos and International Pony before a couple of classics in Schatrax’s proto-minimal ‘Mispent Years’ and Transformer 2’s ‘Pacific Symphony’. Sascha’s glorious new single, ‘In Between Ways’, is actually one of the major highlights, before the hypnotic, acid rollercoaster of Carsten Jost’s ‘Uccelini’. After more graceful gems, this flowing set ends with the disco-boogie of Voigt & Voigt’s ‘Vision 03’ before the chilled floatation of Phantom Ghost’s ‘These Days’ takes it down. If this was in a club, I might well be a gibbering heap by now.
