Giselle Jackson’s late-millennium Manifesto release never did live up to the anthemic nature of the song or the vocal prowess of its singer – often compared to the best song the Sounds Of Blackness never recorded. Writer and producer Phil Turnipseed now enlists the services of D’Layna who instead of re-treading the diva’s previously pulpit-pounding path follows a more soulful trail. The song subsequently takes on a new life form and whilst still gospel-etched, is a tad less energetic and so all the more club-friendly for it; particular in Davidson Ospina’s polished remix and Oscar P & Enrico Mantini’s piano-enveloped offering. The Original mix sticks closer to the initial blueprint and brings back happy memories of the first time I heard this on the Twilo soundsystem one cold November New York night.
