It’s testament to Josh Davis’ production skills that this latest release sounds as authentically sure-footed as any of the dusty samples he’s liberated on past recordings. Apparently inspired by an unreleased acetate he had the opportunity to hear, he’s involved Malcolm Catto on drums and Heliocentrics with the instrumentation (plus lush string arrangement from the inimitable Wil Malone) to craft a true Memphis-styled soul gem that’s likely to be a staple end of night anthem across the board. Even if your ears fooled you before and you weren’t wowed by last years full length “The Outsider”, don’t let this single pass you by – it will banish those rainy January blues like a jar of Carribean sunshine, and deserves to be the soundtrack to 2007. A classic DJ Shadow record.
