Autokat are a Mancunian outfit that have been causing a bit of a stir lately, with their first couple of singles selling out in double quick time. Autokat’s third 45 is a double A-side, which consists of two cuts lifted from their forthcoming album ‘Late Night Shopping’, due in March. ‘Shot’ opens with guitar riffs that wouldn’t sound out of place on Radio head’s ‘The Bends’, then in comes the rolling drums and it sounds like The Cure & Bloc Party have arrived, building & layering, before bursting into a mighty chorus with the singer taking a leaf out of Howard Devoto’s book. Over on the flip ‘Seven Years’ is another melodic builder, but with more jangly bits.
