GUDRUN GUT
I PUT A RECORD ON
MONIKA ENTERPRISE

Gudrun is a veteran pioneer of the Berlin musical scene, having fronted Malaria! and also been part of Mania D and demolition racketeers Einsturzende Neubauten. Apart from her weekly Oceanclub radio show, she runs Monika Enterprise and now unleashes her intoxicating debut album. Although the bedrock is a padding minimal techno pulse, there’s a swarm of musical styles running riot here both old and new. The album opens with the string-drenched ‘Move Me’, which has already been a seven-inch single on Earsugar Jukebox. It’s haunting, pulsing atmosphere sets a mood and from here the unearthly delights come thick and fast, from the ESG-inspired sex-beat of ‘Cry Easy’ to swampy slide-blues of ‘Pleasuretrain’. ‘Girlboogie 06’ is ‘Green Onions’ gone electro-boogie. Sometimes it sounds like it could have been produced by David Lynch but Berlin stalwart and Orb collaborator Thomas Fehlmann has helped construct this delicious little beauty which you should put on at the very earliest opportunity.
