‘Steingarten’ is the third album from Stefan Betke under his Pole moniker, and it’s warmly intimate late night textures that show a clear progression from his previous work in more dubby, hip hop music. The album unfolds at an easy pace, with gentle melodic loops spun out over unchanging beats, with a bit of reassuring depth in the bass department – ideal on headphones or a home cinema system. The subtle Orb-type effects that move in the background give Pole’s sound a wider projection, making an album that’s easy to curl up with – but the toes will be tapping while you do.
