There’s a strongly symmetrical feel to Chris Fortier’s debut album, beginning and ending in blissful electronic ambience but taking in all sorts of styles in between. Tracks like ‘Under Your Nose’ and ‘Waste Not, Want Not’ explore sounds rather than melodies, like the workings of some big machine, while elsewhere Fortier is happy to approach melodic electronica over carefully sequenced beats. Well structured and executed, this is a good album that majors on house music – but manages to experiment at the same time.
