Another big one hatches out of Cocoon as fast-rising Israeli producer Guy Gerber unleashes a monster of an album. Intricately-constructed, panoramic in its range of musical styles and effortlessly blending elements from disco and techno past with electonica’s future, first and foremost this is an incredibly musical album, with layers of melodic keyboards skydiving and curling around each other over subtle grooves of hidden funk. Guy’s big singles are here, like ‘Sea Of Sand’ and ‘Belly Dancing’, but the dance music strains running riot in this glorious melting pot also straddle classic Detroit techno, early house, dub, minimal and a new one they call shuffle where the grove strips down to luminous boxers and gyrates sensuously as a wilderbeest exposes himself. ‘Persona Non Grata’ takes a more chilled direction with R&B influence while ‘2 Birds 1 Stoned’ is a peak-time roof-rumbler. Sometimes it’s more like European modern classical electronica or Moroder meets Carl Craig as on the haunting ‘Lost Frequency’ which caps a remarkable sonic journey.
