Sebastian Riedl is one of the three founders of Areal Records, along with Mathias Klein and Michael Scwanen. He does the striking artwork too and a particularly effective space invasion monster image drapes his first album, surprisingly not one of the Austrian ducks who seem to obsess his fevered brain and apparently got quite riled by this music. Dunno why, it should be like water off a duck’s rectum as the opening ’16 Steps Away From The Stars’ plugs into a kind of classic early 90s Frankfurt trance meets the riff from Felix’s ‘Don’t You Want My Love’ feel, booted into the present with various production quirks and clonks. The album’s something of a journey, basically following a techno-house route but splattered with twists, turns and ideas, as well as many a beak-twisting melodic flare-up, to make sure there’s never a dull moment.
