Swayzak have been together ten years now, but familiarity isn’t breeding
contempt – just more good music. ‘Some Other Country’ is a carefully woven
combination of vocal and instrumental tracks, making an instant hit straight
away with the impassioned ‘Quiet Life’, with Cassy’s vocal snippet ‘all my
thoughts go out to you’ especially memorable. Even better is the sublime
‘Smile And Receive’ with the same vocalist, superbly judged as it gathers
pace. Elsewhere brooding textures and cool sounds blend with strongly
danceable beats to make a deep, emotionally probing album, a record that’s a
long way towards being their best yet.
