Bob Marley
Roots, Rock, Remixed
Kartel/Vital

Here’s a momentous release – and not just because it’s on heavy duty vinyl. In honour of this year’s Tour De France occurring in London for the first time Kraftwerk have allowed themselves to be remixed again, this time by Hot Chip, who despatch two pairs from their number to tackle two tracks. Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard turn ‘Aerodynamic’ into a joyful techno riot which starts minimal riding a bassline not unlike ‘White Lines’ before building shimmering sonic pyramids of heavenly Detroit-style melodies and Mayday-style space flickers. With all this going on, Kraftwerk’s unique feel miraculously survives, their vocodered words occasionally appearing. Al Doyle and Felix Martin then, after a lengthy atmospheric intro, take La Forme on a pulsating hotrod which manages to mix psy-trance, 90s prog-house and minimal elements with Kraftwerk’s melodies to make another monster with a rapturous drop. A truly epic pair of respectful treatments which will be huge.
