During the 90s, Simon Posford adopted a string of names like Hallucinogen, Shpongle and Celtic Cross while working as in-house engineer at Youth’s Butterfly Studios, becoming one of the UK’s foremost psy-trance warriors. Benji Vaughan was in Prometheus and Junk before hooking up with Simon in 2001 to form Younger Brother. Their latest album hops off the dancefloor to lodge itself in a more mainstream electronica direction, sometimes recalling 70s prog-rock’s more pastoral moments while also navigating newer sonic plateaux. The album starts with the gentle ambience of ‘Happy Pills’, echoes latter Pink Floyd’s lazy shimmer in ‘All I Want’, nods at spikey elelctro-punk on ‘I Am A Freak’ and finally gets down to the glorious techno magic Posford weaves like a master on the two part ‘Sleepwalker’. Lushly-textured and skilfully-produced, this strong set could well raise the mass toupee.
