Samantha James
Rise
OM

Another OM Records chanteuse joins Collette in releasing a rather sultry
album – in this case Samantha James’ debut, the culmination of three years’
songwriting. It shows, too – these are well crafted, groovy and cool
examples of deep house with soul. The production is always easy on the ear,
as are James’ softly sung vocals – which work well both in faster and slower
music. In some cases Karen Ramirez came to mind, but this music is more
assured and more memorable – especially when James shows herself to have
convincing Latin credentials in a duet with Celso Fonseca.
