Diesler has decamped from Tru Thoughts to Freestyle, and seems to be positioning himself more as a songwriter, whilst making sure he doesn’t turn his back on the soulful, funky grooves that have served him so well up till now. The vocalists on ‘The Rhythm Station’ make the record tick, with excellent turns from Laura Vane, Afrika Fuentes and rapper Testament. Vane in particular has a nice edge to her voice, while Diesler shows he can still do cracking instrumentals with the piano propelled shimmy of ‘When She Was Bad’.
