Cristian Vogel
The Never Engine
Tresor

‘The Never Engine’ has a complex story behind it, its beats predetermined by a series of sequencing algorithms. For those who’d like that in English it’s a serious yet effective way of making one sound come out of another – and yet the composition means that Vogel’s approach, while practically devoid of anything melodic, sounds natural. He uses a wide stereo plane as well, so that the sounds are great on headphones; the beats and rhythms driving everything as the sound loops generate themselves. Vogel moves from driving techno to softer electronica, his sound often propulsive and none more so than CYK movingHigh, where the bass drum hurls itself out the speakers.
